Fill In Both Sides of Your Canvas
By now your page has the nine blocks in place and numbers on the bottom edge for one unit.
Fill in the right side and the left side of your canvas
Fill the right side from the value proposition: the segment, then the channel, the relationship and the revenue stream, each one following from the promise. Choose the revenue stream on purpose instead of copying how money comes in today. Then fill the left side as a chain: the key activities, the resources they need, the partners for what you will not own, and the costs. Mark each cost as growing with every customer or staying put, and rework any block until every check in the list below passes.
- Which one channel reaches your segment?
- Which of your costs grows with every customer, and which stays put?
Your segment is narrow enough that one named channel reaches it
The value proposition says what changes for the customer, without naming the product
Channel, relationship and revenue stream each follow from the value proposition
Your revenue stream is the one you would pick if you were starting today
The left side runs from activities to resources to partners to costs
Each cost is marked as growing with every customer or staying put
